Brand Video vs. Commercial: Which Does Your Business Need?
The two most requested videos in Northwest Arkansas sound similar but do very different jobs. Knowing which one you actually need saves money and produces a better result.
A commercial sells one thing. It is short, usually 15 to 60 seconds, built around a single offer or message, and made for paid placement: social ads, streaming, broadcast, or pre roll. A good commercial has one call to action and is judged on response. If you have a promotion, a launch, or a specific service you want more of, you want a commercial.
A brand video tells your story. It usually runs 60 seconds to a few minutes and answers the questions a prospect has before they trust you: who are you, what do you stand for, what is it like to work with you. It lives on your homepage, in proposals, at events, and in your sales process. It is judged on connection rather than clicks. If customers do not understand what makes you different, you want a brand video.
Which comes first? For most small and mid sized businesses, the brand video. It becomes the foundation your other content builds on, and the footage from a brand shoot can usually be recut into short ads later. If you have an urgent seasonal push, flip the order and run the commercial first.
Budget wise, the two often cost about the same to produce, because both need planning, a shoot day, and editing. The difference is where the money works. A commercial needs media spend behind it to perform, so budget for the placement, not just the production. A brand video works for free once it is on your website and in your sales conversations.
The good news is you rarely have to choose forever. A well planned shoot can capture both: a story driven brand piece plus a set of short cutdowns built to run as ads. That is the approach we recommend to most clients because it gets two campaigns of material out of one production budget.
